Tball, here.

I had a really long post ready to go. I was uploading the pictures to it and my internet connection decided to play a joke on me.

Apparently, no one told my internet connection it was not April Fool’s day.

It was not nice.

Basically, here is what I had written.

Tball, here, is different from any place we have lived and experienced tball. In the other two states, tball was fairly competitive. We’re talking All Stars, traveling teams, rankings, etc. But here….here….HERE…tball is all about the fun.

Allow me a moment to explain.

From past experience, you have players on bases, short stop, a pitcher, a catcher, and in the outfield. The hitter hits the ball and depending on where it goes, the hitter runs to first. If the ball is caught, thrown to first and gets there before the runner, then that person is out. The ball is then thrown to the pitcher and the play stops. If the ball is hit and no one catches it, as long as it gets to the pitcher, the play is stopped and the runner stops on whatever base he gets to before the play is stopped. Make sense? Runners can be out at any base, including home.

Not here. There are no outs. If you want, you can put your players in all the traditional positions. Or, you can keep everyone in the infield. Every child gets a chance to hit the ball and gets a chance to run all the bases. Even if the first baseman gets the ball before the hitter gets there, he is not out. Every inning, every child hits the ball and every child runs all the bases to home. Score is not kept. There is really no point since it would be a tie every single time.

It is FUN! The kids are having fun and they are learning something.

One child dug in the dirt at third base with her hands and her feet.

The outfield swarms the infield to get the ball that is between the pitchers mound and first base.

There is that child that picks up fists full of dirt and runs from second base to third, spreading the dirt in front of him as he runs.

No, that isn’t Prissy digging in the dirt. Not in this one. Prissy is walking back to second base, after running to the pitcher’s mound to get the ball. Along with all the other players on her team.

It is truly all about the fun! Prissy may not like it, but I do!

That sounds like our first three “seasons” of t-ball. I use the term seasons lightly as it was Summerball and lasted 8 weeks through the summer. It was with the Y and there was no real structure. It was fun… for awhile. But after awhile, the kids who really wanted to play got bored – JW was one of these kids! That was when we transitioned to Pony League and WOW, how he has flourished!

I bet Prissy is having a BLAST!

I’m so glad they are just having a good time! That’s all the kids really want anyway. Losing, winning, just causes hard feelings and hurts and this way everyone wins!! That’s great!!
I hope Prissy continues to enjoy this *new* way of playing!!
